I guess I've never felt less in control of my destiny, or more cynical about the world.
Government strong-armed banks into making bad loans through the Community Redistribution Act.
Then, when the natural consequences came to fruition, the government makes taxpayers foot the bill, and uses the situation to usurp even more power.
It doesn't matter who we vote for, and it doesn't matter who wins. It doesn't matter what voters tell legislators to do. We are going to get screwed no matter who is president, and no matter who is in Congress.
We can buy gold to protect ourselves from government scams like this, but then they can just make it illegal to own gold again.
Foreign oil, domestic oil...what's the difference? We have the technology right now to make cars run on water, electricity, or vegetable oil...but the government won't allow us to implement it. Then they have the gall to accuse us of being "addicted" to oil.
Nobody wants to keep abortion legal more than the conservatives - that's what energizes their support base.
Nobody wants to keep gay marriage illegal more than the liberals. Where would they get their millions without that issue?
And while politicians are parading across our tv screens bemoaning the economic meltdown, they are breaking spending records on their bullshit political campaigns.
I don't even think I'm going to vote.
Plus...TX beat OU today. Damn.

I'm in a very dark place about our world 'leaders' as well. I think we have passed a tipping point where our 'society' (?) was salvageable.
I agree that it does not matter who wins this election. I feel that it is all a matter of gigantic collusion of politicians keeping the taxpayers confused, frightened, and distracted.
I get regular e-mails from people who are frightened of this candidate or that candidate for whatever reason dujour. My message is the same to people on the red and blue teams: "neither of them give a shit about you".
I'm voting, but it's because 90 years ago American women were beaten, incarcerated, starved, and tortured because they felt that women should have the right to vote. I'm voting for Obama, but it's like choosing between a turd sandwich and a giant douche.
Soon, the only real criminals in the eyes of our government will be people who don't pay their taxes and thereby don't support the system.
Do the people have the will to rebel and begin a new revolution? NO. We are too afraid, we are too in debt, we are too soft, we are too in love with our possessions. We will do what we are told, and we will continue to accept greater control and greater burdens from our government until we cannot move from their weight on us.
They don't care, and I wonder if they ever have - at least during our lifetimes. If there were a revolution, it would be no better except for the revolutionary leaders. The thought that my welfare depends on the capricious benevolence of somene with more power than me is unbearably depressing.
To quote Benjamin Martin from The Patriot, "Why should I agree to trade one tyrant three thousand miles away for three thousand tyrants one mile away?"
We're screwed either way.
I so feel the same way..depressed, frightened, angry and helpless. Knowing that there is nothing we can do to change it, no one listens to our voice anyway - why the hell bother. It just makes me want to retreat into the woods, build a cabin and live off the grid. Maybe the world would forget that we exist.
(yeah right - until we didn't pay taxes, right?)
i still voted
I'm voting for Hillary.
